Catholic Ames Young Adult Community

Catholic Ames Young Adult Community (CAYAC) seeks to provide a dynamic community gathered around Word and Sacrament, rooted in evangelization and service, to each other, to the parish, and to the Ames community.

We have at least two social events, one spiritual, and one service event per month. Past events have included game nights, apple picking, bowling, ice skating and many more. Spiritual events have included adoration, divine mercy chaplet, religious videos, and more. Service events have included serving food at Food at First, cooking a supper at Emergency Residence Project, making blankets for Project Linus and more.

To stay up to date on events, please email youngadults@staparish.net to receive our bi-weekly emails and like Catholic Ames Young Adult Community on Facebook!

Upcoming Events:

Book Club

CAYAC is starting a book club for graduate students and young adults. The book club will be equal parts, intellectual, spiritual, and social. We will read books from a wide range of topics and genres: everything from theology and lives of the saints to novels by Christian authors. The goal of the group is to bring people together to grow in faith and community in a casual, weekly forum.

The amount of reading will always be light, less than 45 minutes per week. Even if you haven't done the reading you are encouraged to attend, conversations always go on tangents and everyone can join in.

Meetings will be BYOB and BYO snacks.

Our first book will be Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, author of the Chronicles of Narnia series and other works of Christian fiction and apologetics. Subsequent books will be chosen democratically.

The book club will be organized by Jackson Hayes, a PhD student at Iowa State. If you are interested, email Jackson for more details.
