Feb. 14-20, Week of Ash Wednesday - What is Lent?

On Wednesday, we celebrate Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent,a season of preparation. Throughout the next 6 weeks, or 40 days (plus Sundays), we prepare ourselves mentally and spiritually for the Eucharist that was given to us on Holy Thursday, Jesus’ love that was proven to us during his passion on Good Friday, and of course, Jesus’ defeat of death when he resurrected on Easter Sunday. In light of this, we focus our preparation by “living out Lent” with actions like giving up meat on Fridays, giving up or doing something else to spend that time focusing on Jesus’ love, and praying other devotions like the Stations of the Cross more regularly. This week's activities our young people embrace Lent in their lives.

Jesus loved us so much that he was willing to die for us on the cross. Encourage your child to look for ways during this lenten season to sacrifice for others they love, to be kind, or spend more time in prayer.
