Tom Budnik enjoyed a long-time career as an educator, spending the majority of his professional career as a teacher, consultant and administrator, working with both public and nonpublic schools, regional service agencies and universities. Tom holds the BEd in Elementary Education from Chicago Teachers College, the MAT in Middle School Science Education from Michigan State University and the PhD in Curriculum and Instructional Media from Iowa State University. Tom’s expertise includes working with group process, organizational development, strategic planning and program evaluation. After retiring as a Coordinator for School Improvement with the Heartland Area Education Agency, Tom focused his post-retirement journey on Catholic school education, serving first as Director of Educational Services for the 18 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Des Moines, and then as Principal of St. Cecilia School here in Ames.
Tom is a Chicago native, having resided in Ames since 1968. He currently works part-time for Adams Funeral Home as a Funeral Assistant. He and Terri, his wife of 56 years, have been blessed with four married children and six grandchildren. When not working, which seems to be somewhat of an addiction for Tom, he loves to cook and sing, sometime both at the same time, and he and Terri enjoy dancing when the opportunity presents itself. Terri and Tom have been active St. Cecilia parishioners and have made a practice to attend an annual married couples retreat to help them in keeping a focus on Christ in their marriage.
Tom is looking forward to his new role and to re-acquainting with long-time St. Thomas friends and to meeting and making new ones.
