Rev. Everett Hemann

Rev. Everett Hemann

Pastor

515-292-3810

I am not superstitious and 13 has always been a lucky number for me. I begin my 13th year at STA and it is just as exciting as when I was washed in with the floods of '93. It's my 24th year in campus ministry. Obviously I love college students.

I enjoy traveling. I have had the opportunity to visit Japan, Europe, Australia, all the central American countries and Bolivia. I look forward to Africa. Next summer, I will be leading a pilgrimage-tour to Alaska. I have been to Alaska three times already and am looking forward to taking more friends along this time. In the fall of '08 I will lead a pilgrimage to "follow the footsteps of St. Paul" That should really be interesting.

I love flying and became a private pilot in 1964 at the age of 18. I now hold a commercial license with instrument and Certified Flight Instructor & Instrument Instructor ratings. I just finished two terms as President of the National Assn of Priest Pilots. Yes, there really is such an organization. We have about 150 members in 35 states and 8 other countries. No, they don't play "Hail to the Chief" when I enter the room.

In addition to travel, I also enjoy biking, skiing and tennis. In recent years I have gotten into cooking and entertaining.

Obviously as pastor, "the buck stops here" at my desk. But STA is blest with an extraordinary staff, so I am not involved in many of the details of operation. My specific responsibilities include sacramental & spiritual ministry, pastoral counseling, staff selection & development & supervision. As with other staff, I appreciate all the lay volunteers who work so competently in various areas. YOU are why STA is successful.

In addition to STA, I am also pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul, Gilbert. It is a delightful small, rural parish. I also serve on the Archdiocesan Worship Commission. This group of 12 lay, religious and priests advise Archbishop Hanus on worship policy in the Archdiocese. We also assist parishes renovating or building Churches. I also am dean of the Ames deanery which is 17 parishes in central Iowa. I convene and chair meetings of clergy and/or laity for purposes of education, collaboration and planning for the future.

At ISU, I serve on the Internal Review Board for research on human subjects. We review all proposed research for legal and ethical compliance. I serve on the Loras College Board of Regents. I completed an M.Div degree at St. Meinrad School of Theology and an M.A. in liturgical studies at the University of Notre Dame.
