At St. Thomas

Cook at the Emergency Residence Project

The Emergency Resident Project celebrates its twentieth anniversary this fall. In 1985 it began its work to house the homeless in Story County. Since that time its work has expanded with transitional housing for families and homeless prevention assistance to people in need of rent or utility assistance.

St. Thomas has helped the shelter in many ways through these years. We provide regular financial assistance through our Community Outreach Tithe. A group from St. Thomas provides meals for residents on Friday evenings; normally people also eat the meal with the residents. College students have begun to organize projects with the children in transitional housing.

If you wish to sign up to provide a Friday meal, check the sheet on the information table in the gathering space at St. Thomas

Monday Meals at First United Church in Ames

Members of St. Thomas Aquinas will be cooking and serving meals at First United Methodist Church on the first, second and fourth Mondays of the month. One team cooks, prepares the meal, and sets the tables from 3:00 to 5:30 pm; the second team serves and cleans up from 5:15 pm to 7:00 pm.

Menus have been planned beforehand and ingredients already there. We just need your help. If you want to help, please sign up on the sheet on the information table in the gathering space. If you have any questions, contact one of the planning committee members: Elaine DeKovic: 296-2961; Heather Will: 233-5795; Marianne Todey: 232-4722.

Taking food to MICA food shelf

St. Thomas needs volunteers to help take food from St. Thomas during our food collections to the Mid Iowa Community Action office during the day.

English conversation classes

St. Thomas will no longer offer English Conversation classes. However, a program is beginning at St. Cecilia's Church. If you are interested, contact John McCully at St. Cecilia's, 233-3092.
